I recently went to Indonesia to do a story for VICE on a group of Warias in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, who have started an Islamic school for trannsexuals. I found myself in a strange, sweaty world of false eyelashes, fake hair, cheap cigarettes, dangdut karaoke, backyard boob jobs and jilbābs. I loved it.
